Cubs Minor League Highlights: Hartshorn Continues to Shine

March 24, 2026; Mesa, Arizona, USA - Chicago Cubs first baseman Josiah Hartshorn is making headlines yet again, reminiscent of the early career of Kris Bryant, who excelled at Double-A Tennessee in 2014. Hartshorn, now competing in High-A, is showcasing impressive power with a recent home run marking his eighth in just 18 games.

The Iowa Cubs faced off against the Louisville Bats, ending in a 4-4 tie after a rainout interrupted the game. Iowa initially took a commanding lead with a five-run surge in the tenth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from James Triantos. Unfortunately, the rain halted further play, leading to the reversion of the score. Doug Nikhazy, who started for Iowa, pitched four solid innings, allowing only two runs while striking out six.

Meanwhile, the Knoxville Smokies secured a close 4-3 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits, placing them at the top of the Southern League North Division. Brooks Caple, despite allowing three unearned runs due to his own error, struck out one and walked three in five innings. The late innings saw Luke Little earn the win in his first game back with the Smokies. Erian Rodriguez sealed the victory with his first professional save.

The South Bend Cubs dominated the Peoria Chiefs with a score of 10-3. Alfredo Romero started on the mound but was followed by Nazier Mulé, who earned the win by shutting down the Chiefs for three innings. Hartshorn’s stellar performance included a solo home run, contributing to his impressive total of 27 RBIs this season.

Finally, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans edged out the Augusta GreenJackets with a close 6-5 win. Starter Pierce Coppola allowed only one run in four innings while David Bracho faced some challenges but managed to secure the win after giving up a three-run homer in the seventh. The Cubs' minor league affiliates are collectively making waves this season, demonstrating their potential for the future.
