David Puig admits why playing with Scottie Scheffler at the PGA Championship was ‘difficult’
David Puig has commented on playing alongside Scottie Scheffler for each of the final two rounds at the PGA Championship at Aronimink.
Puig has registered his best ever major finish after ending the week in Philadelphia at one under par.
He also finished just one shot behind the world number one.

Puig and Scottie Scheffler were actually paired together on both of the last two days. Scheffler, of course, was looking to keep the Wanamaker Trophy within his possession following his victory at Quail Hollow last year.
Unfortunately, it proved to be an underwhelming week for the 29-year-old.
Scheffler looks set to miss out on a top 10 at a major for the very first time since the US Open back in 2024. He seemed to particularly struggle on the greens over the weekend at Aronimink.
Despite that, he clearly managed to make a real impression on Puig. Speaking to LIV Golf‘s media after the final round, the young Spaniard explained what the experience of playing alongside Scheffler was like.
“It was an amazing week from start to finish. Maybe I wanted a little more after those first two days, but I’m still pretty proud of how I played this weekend. Playing with Scottie is never easy. First of all, he’s the best player in the world, and following his golf sometimes can be a little difficult,” he said.
“But again, I’m pretty proud of how I played and how I battled. A little disappointed with the bogey on 13 and not making birdie on 16 from the fairway, but overall it was a pretty good week, and I’m pretty happy with my game.”
LIV Golf received a much-needed boost at Aronimink after a nightmare at The Masters
It was a much better week for LIV Golf at the PGA Championship.
Given everything going on with the league right now, it is easy to forget that Tyrrell Hatton was the only LIV player to finish inside the top 30 at The Masters last month.
There was a real return to form for Cam Smith. The Australian had missed his last six cuts in the major championships leading into Aronimink.
He had an opportunity to tie the clubhouse lead at five under par on Sunday. Ultimately, his hopes were dashed when he missed a birdie putt on the 72nd hole.
Elsewhere, Jon Rahm kept himself right around the top of the leaderboard all day. He has now registered his first top five finish in a major since joining LIV.
Joaquin Niemann finished inside the top 20 having not been in the field at Augusta National. And Puig went on to provide a reminder of his potential with his performance.
