Dayton Dragons Poised to Top Minor League Baseball Attendance Again
As of June 18, the Dayton Dragons are on track to replicate their success from 2022 by leading all of minor league baseball in average paid attendance. According to a recent report from Baseball America, the Dragons currently boast an impressive average of 7,970 fans per game, surpassing the attendance figures of last year's leader, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, who are affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies in the Class AAA International League.
In comparison, the IronPigs have an average attendance of 7,159 this season, down from their 2022 average of 8,242. The Dragons' current attendance is also slightly higher than their 2022 figure of 7,935. Notably, the Dragons are the sole Class A team featured in the top ten, where eight teams are from AAA and one, the Richmond Flying Squirrels, represents AA with an average of 7,133 fans.
The list of teams rounding out the top ten includes Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, El Paso, Nashville, Columbus, and Durham. Additionally, the Dragons have successfully maintained their remarkable streak of consecutive sellouts, which began with the opening of Day Air Ballpark in 2000. This streak has now reached an incredible 1,666 games, starting from a record of 1,636.
With their current attendance numbers, the Dragons are likely to lead the Midwest League and all 60 Class A teams for the 26th consecutive year. If they continue at this pace, it would mark their 20th straight season as the top team in attendance among all clubs below the AAA level.
Looking ahead, the Dragons have a home game scheduled for June 23, kicking off a lengthy 12-game homestand that will extend through July 5.
