Devin Lloyd Shares Full-Circle Moment with Panthers Icon Luke Kuechly
Devin Lloyd's journey with the Carolina Panthers is marked by a significant connection to franchise great Luke Kuechly, a bond that predates Lloyd's professional career. In a recent discussion with Anish Schroff, the team's radio commentator, Lloyd reflected on an impactful conversation with Kuechly that took place shortly after he was drafted in 2022.
During this exchange, Kuechly, a former Defensive Player of the Year and five-time first-team All-Pro, reached out as part of his agency's efforts to recruit Lloyd. At that time, Lloyd had just transitioned from a stellar college career at the University of Utah, where he was recognized as a consensus All-American, to the NFL after being selected 27th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Since entering the league, Lloyd has made a name for himself, accumulating 436 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, and nine interceptions by the end of the 2024 season, which also earned him his first Pro Bowl selection. Following his impressive performance, he signed a three-year contract valued at $42 million with the Panthers this past spring.
With his exceptional skills and playmaking abilities, Lloyd is increasingly seen as a successor to Kuechly's legacy in Carolina. Fortunately for him, he now has the opportunity to connect with the Hall of Famer more easily than ever.
