Dodgers Eyeing $32 Million Cy Young Winner Following Glasnow Injury Woes
The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing challenges in maintaining a healthy starting rotation as the season progresses. Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell have both been sidelined, with Snell currently recovering from elbow surgery. Glasnow, however, has encountered a troubling setback.
On Saturday, the Dodgers announced that Glasnow has been moved to the 60-day injured list, indicating that his persistent back issues are hindering the rehabilitation process. The 32-year-old pitcher has been absent since May 8, when he experienced a back spasm. Initially, the team anticipated a brief absence, but Glasnow has since been shut down, and manager Dave Roberts confirmed that he has not yet been cleared to resume throwing activities.
As the trade deadline approaches, the Dodgers are reportedly looking to bolster their starting rotation. ESPN’s Buster Olney suggested that Los Angeles could be a key player in pursuing Tarik Skubal from the Tigers. “If they fall out [of the American League race], then you would imagine teams like the Dodgers, the Padres, the Phillies, will be having conversations with the Tigers,” Olney noted.
Skubal is recovering from elbow surgery, similar to the procedure Snell underwent. He recently made a strong rehab appearance, demonstrating that he is regaining his form. “Tarik Skubal underwent elbow surgery May 6. One month and one day later, he threw five scoreless innings on 54 pitches and punched out six at High-A,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported.
A potential rotation that includes Skubal alongside stars like Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto would be formidable, as the Dodgers aim for their third consecutive World Series title. Currently under a $32 million contract, Skubal is expected to attract considerable interest this offseason, and the Dodgers may have the resources to meet his demands.
