Drew Rasmussen Dominates as Rays Shut Out Marlins 6-0

MIAMI (AP) — In a commanding performance, Drew Rasmussen surrendered just one hit over seven innings, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 6-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday night. Junior Caminero had a standout evening, reaching base five times, contributing significantly to the team's success.

Caminero showcased his skills with a double, two walks, and a single, while Cedric Mullings added a homer to the mix. Ryan Vilade also made an impact with two hits and two runs batted in, and Yandy Díaz recorded three singles throughout the game.

Rasmussen (5-2) struck out a season-high nine batters and displayed remarkable control, retiring 17 consecutive hitters after allowing a single to Javier Sanoja in the second inning. He exited the game after throwing 87 pitches. Notably, two of Rasmussen's five wins this season have come against the Marlins, having previously pitched 5 1/3 innings in a 6-3 victory on May 17.

This marked the second time this season that Caminero has reached base five times in a game, having done so previously on opening day against St. Louis. Following a disappointing three-game sweep at home against Detroit, the Rays bounced back with 12 hits in their series opener against Miami.

Cam Booser took over for Rasmussen in the eighth inning, navigating around a walk, while Cole Sulser sealed the game with a two-hit ninth. The Rays struck early against Marlins starter Ryan Gusto (0-1), as Richie Palacios hit a two-run triple and scored on Vilade's single in the first inning.

In the fifth, Aranda added to the score with an RBI single off reliever Tyler Phillips, who sustained a foot injury but remained in the game after evaluation. The Rays extended their lead with Mullings’ home run in the sixth and Vilade's RBI single in the seventh. Gusto allowed three runs on three hits over two innings of work. Ray’s outfielder Chandler Simpson left the game in the third inning due to discomfort in his left thumb.

Looking ahead, the Rays are set to start left-handed pitcher Shane McLanahan (6-2, 2.45) on Saturday, while the Marlins have yet to announce their starting pitcher.
