Exeter Girls Track Achieves Record-Breaking Performance; Traip Academy Girls Lacrosse Moves Forward
NORTH BERWICK, Maine — The Exeter High School girls track team had an impressive showing at the New England Interscholastic Track & Field Championship, breaking two records in one meet. The 4x800-meter relay team, consisting of Lexi Paterna, Bri Paterna, Izzie Bremer, and Madie Poteet, secured first place with a remarkable time of 8 minutes, 57.01 seconds on Saturday, June 13, at Noble High School. This performance shattered the previous meet record of 9:05.30, which was held by La Salle Academy from Providence, R.I., since 2014.
Additionally, Exeter's 4x400-meter relay team, featuring Lexi Paterna, Bremer, Poteet, and Martelle McBride, also excelled, finishing fifth with a time of 3:56.94. This achievement surpassed their earlier school record of 3:57.68 set during the Clipper Relays in Portsmouth earlier this season.
In girls lacrosse, the Traip Academy Rangers triumphed over Erskine Academy with a score of 8-5 in the Class C quarterfinals. Maddy Rohan, Sam Latchaw, and Keira Durgin were standout players, each netting two goals to help propel their team to victory. Traip will now advance to the semifinals, where they will face the top-seeded Maranacook/Winthrop, who secured their spot with a dominant 22-2 win over No. 8 Lincoln Academy.
Shea Johnson and Lucy Bolanos contributed to the Rangers' scoring, while Maddy Guay played a crucial role in goal, making seven saves during the match.
