Field announced for the 2027 Auburn Regional at Plainsman Park
A day after learning that it would host an NCAA Regional for the second-straight season and the fourth time in five years, the Auburn Tigers now know their NCAA Tournament seed, as well as its opponents for this week's Auburn Regional.
The NCAA revealed that Auburn is the No. 4 national seed, which sets them up to host an NCAA Super Regional should they win the Auburn Regional this weekend. The Auburn Regional is paired with the Lincoln Regional, hosted by Nebraska. Auburn will host the winner of the Lincoln Regional should they handle business at Plainsman Park.
First things first, Auburn must battle through its regional draw, which includes NC State, UCF, and Milwaukee.
Auburn's first opponent, Milwaukee, grabs an NCAA Tournament bid after winning the Horizon League Tournament championship over Wright State on Saturday. The Panthers will enter the Auburn Regional with 31 losses and just one win over a Power Conference opponent, a 9-6 win on the road at Duke in February. Milwaukee is also 0-3 against SEC teams this season, suffering a series sweep at LSU to open the season.
NC State is 32-22, and finished No. 9 in the ACC standings with a 14-16 record. The Wolfpack won five games against Quad 1 teams this season and closed the regular season ranked No. 50 in the RPI. This postseason will also mark the final ride for head coach Elliot Avent, who is set to retire as NC State's head coach after a 30-year tenure in Raleigh.
Finally, UCF enters the Auburn Regional at 31-21 and a loss to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament semifinal. The Knights finished fourth in the Big 12 standings behind regional hosts Kansas and West Virginia, and Arizona State. UCF is also the highest-rated team in the RPI outside of Auburn in the Auburn Regional at No. 36. The Knights boast a solid pitching staff with an overall ERA of 4.37, which ranks No. 2 in the Big 12.
The Tigers will open the Auburn Regional vs Milwaukee on Friday at noon CT, with NC State matching up with UCF on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
