Four-Star Cornerback Blake Jenkins Chooses Michigan Football

Katy (Texas) Tompkins cornerback Blake Jenkins has officially committed to the University of Michigan, making his announcement on Thursday night. Jenkins, a highly regarded four-star recruit according to the Rivals Industry rankings, had previously attracted interest from several schools, including Texas, Vanderbilt, and Houston. Despite initial speculation that Vanderbilt was in the lead, Michigan made a compelling late push for the talented athlete.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, Jenkins brings a combination of size and speed to the Wolverines, clocking a 4.48-second time in the 40-yard dash. After receiving an offer from Michigan following his junior season, Jenkins was drawn in by the new coaching staff's efforts during the winter months, eventually leading to an unofficial visit to the campus in April.

Greg Powers of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football praised Jenkins, stating, “First off, he has the size to take on a true No. 1 receiver on the outside. He's big, strong, physical and he has great hips. He can turn and run with anybody. He’s versatile. I think he can play multiple positions in the secondary which helps his roster value.” Powers also noted Jenkins' experience in a competitive 6A district, highlighting his readiness for high-level competition.

Jenkins becomes the 16th commitment for Michigan's 2027 recruiting class and will join fellow secondary recruits Tavares Harrington, Darius Johnson, and Charles Woodson Jr. Notably, he is the third player from Texas to join this class.

In related recruiting news, Michigan is optimistic about securing Oceanside (California) offensive lineman Lincoln Mageo, who is set to visit this weekend. Additionally, four-star defensive tackle Seth Tillman from Rock Hill (South Carolina) is also on campus, alongside tight end Christian Hanshaw from American Fork (Utah), as the Wolverines aim to strengthen their roster against stiff competition from programs like UCLA, Utah, and BYU.
