Four-Star Small Forward Clyde Walters Chooses Providence, Reclassifies to 2026

Clyde Walters, a promising four-star small forward originally slated for the 2027 class, has made the decision to commit to Providence and reclassify to the 2026 class, allowing him to join the team for the upcoming season, as reported by Rivals. Standing at 6-foot-6 and hailing from Overtime Elite in Georgia, Walters was previously ranked 85th among his peers in the 2027 class, a status that will be reassessed following his reclassification.

Walters recently took an official visit to Providence, and he expressed his intent to remain on campus for summer workouts. Reflecting on his choice, he stated, "Providence felt like the best place for me to grow as a player and as a person." He emphasized the confidence the coaching staff instilled in him from the beginning and noted their clear vision for the program as motivating factors for his commitment.

The Birmingham, Alabama native shared his thoughts on the decision to reclassify, saying, "I felt like I was ready for the next challenge. Reclassifying gave me the opportunity to push myself against older competition and start the next chapter of my basketball journey sooner." This pivotal choice was made after discussions with his family and trusted advisors.

Walters has maintained a strong bond with Bryan Hodgson, who previously served as an assistant coach at Alabama. "I’ve known Coach Hodgson since he was at Alabama, so there was already a strong relationship and level of trust there," he noted. He appreciated Hodgson's honesty and dedication, which solidified his confidence in choosing Providence.

Describing his playing style, Walters said, "I’m a versatile player who likes to impact the game in multiple ways. I can score, defend, rebound, and create for my teammates." He conveyed his enthusiasm for joining the Friars, asserting, "I’m excited to be a Friar and can’t wait to get to work." Walters had a notable spring season playing for Alabama Fusion, averaging 19.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.

In addition to Providence, Walters had attracted interest from several other schools, including Syracuse, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, and Ole Miss, among others.
