Geraldo Perdomo Stirs Up Rivalry as He Dominates Reds' Mascot Race
During the final game of the series on June 14, Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo made quite a splash at Great American Ball Park, much to the chagrin of Cincinnati Reds fans. The Diamondbacks clinched a 5-3 victory that day, but it was Perdomo's antics that really stole the show.
MLB's official social media shared footage of Perdomo crashing the Reds' mascot race, crossing the finish line ahead of the team’s mascots and even breaking the tape. Shortly after his unexpected victory, he hit a crucial two-run homer in the sixth inning off Reds pitcher Tejay Antone, pausing to mimic shooting a basketball as he rounded the bases.
Things heated up further when Reds player Noelvi Marte tied the game with his own home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading to a brief exchange of words between the two players as Marte completed his circuit around the diamond.
Reflecting on his unexpected win in the mascot race, Perdomo remarked, “I just see the finish right there and I take my W,” showcasing his confidence and competitive spirit.
This spirited encounter has added another chapter to the ongoing rivalry between the Diamondbacks and Reds, much to the amusement of fans and players alike.
