Hadleigh Wilson Shines with Dual Titles at South Dakota State Trap Shooting Tournament

Jun. 8—ABERDEEN — The Mitchell High School shooting team delivered an impressive performance at the South Dakota High School Clay Target League state tournament, led by freshman Hadleigh Wilson, who secured two individual championships in Class 2A. Wilson showcased her skill by hitting 94 out of 100 targets in the varsity female trap shooting division, outpacing her closest competitors, who all scored 89. Among them was her teammate Brooke Ver Hey, who claimed fourth place. Harrisburg's Sophia Vant Hul and Yankton's Cierra Cameron took second and third, respectively.

In addition to her trap shooting victory, Wilson also triumphed in the junior varsity female skeet division, achieving a score of 77. This follows a successful previous season where she clinched both the junior varsity female trap and novice female skeet titles.

Another standout from Mitchell was Trinity Wilson, who dominated the skeet varsity female division with a score of 79, narrowly beating Claire Griffith from Lyman, who finished with 78. In the novice female trap division, Mitchell's Haley Hauck secured third place with a score of 70, while Pierre's Ann Tjeerdsma took the top position with a score of 76.

In the trap varsity male division, Chance Henkel was the highest finisher for Mitchell, placing eighth with a score of 93, while Mason Fosness, with a score of 91, tied for 16th among 146 participants. The state title in this category was claimed by Dalton Moorhouse from Deuel/Deubrook Area, who shot a remarkable 98.

As a team, Mitchell finished third in the Class 2A varsity standings with a total score of 455, just behind Platte-Geddes, which scored 460, and Pierre, which scored 458. The team score included contributions from Hadleigh Wilson, Chance Henkel, Mason Fosness, Brooke Ver Hey, and Devin Henkel, all of whom ranked in the top 40 out of 163 shooters. Both Hadleigh Wilson and Chance Henkel received a 25-straight award for their performance.
