Hailey Van Lith Remains with Connecticut Sun on Developmental Contract

Hailey Van Lith is set to continue her journey with the Connecticut Sun following her recent release from the team. Instead of departing the franchise, the former LSU standout will sign a developmental contract, allowing her to remain with the organization while working on her game.

This developmental contract permits Van Lith to participate in up to 12 games, a structure designed for players on the edge of the roster to enhance their skills. It is similar to a two-way contract in the NBA, providing athletes an opportunity to grow within the team environment.

Sources confirmed that Van Lith, the 2025 No. 11 overall pick, chose to stay in Connecticut despite other potential offers. “Van Lith feels that staying in Connecticut is the best choice for her development,” tweeted journalist Alexa Philippou.

Prior to her time with the Sun, Van Lith was with the Chicago Sky during the preseason but was released just before the start of the regular season. In her nine appearances with the Sun, she made a notable impact, averaging 8.1 points and 2.2 assists per game, with impressive shooting percentages of 49.2% from the field, 47.1% from beyond the arc, and 83.3% at the free-throw line.

The Sun made the decision to waive Van Lith to activate guard Leila Lacan, who recently completed her season in France. With this new agreement, Van Lith will have the chance to familiarize herself further with the team as she aims to secure her place in the WNBA.
