Harper Woods and Spring Lake Claim MHSAA Division 2 Track and Field Titles

The MHSAA conducted its Division 2 track and field state championship on Saturday, May 30, at Hamilton High School. The boys' championship was secured by Harper Woods, who finished with a total of 47 points, while Spring Lake triumphed in the girls' competition, achieving 42 points.

In the 100-meter dash, Austin Langeland from Coopersville took first place with a time of 10.79 seconds, followed closely by Deandre Bidden of Harper Woods at 10.82 seconds. For the girls, Aubrey Wilson of Dearborn Divine Child finished first in 11.50 seconds.

The 200-meter race saw Jack Cook from Otsego winning for the boys in 21.24 seconds, while Aubrey Wilson continued her strong performance by winning the girls' event in 24.10 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, Brady Rowe from Portland led the boys with a time of 47.90 seconds, and Christina Dixon of Haslett took the girls' title in 55.69 seconds.

In the distance events, Ryan Good from Parma Western dominated both the 800 meters, clocking in at 1:53.81, and the 1600 meters with a time of 4:13.20. Eliza Schwass from Ludington excelled in the girls' 800 meters at 2:08.62 and also won the 1600 meters in 4:53.12.

Field events also showcased impressive performances, with Kameron Kessler from Vicksburg winning the boys' shot put at 56 feet, 2 ¾ inches, and Peyton Maxey from Freeland leading the girls' shot put with a throw of 43-1 ¾. In pole vault, Ben Goran of Spring Lake reached a height of 15-1, while Evie Mathis from Wayland Union cleared 12-3 in the girls' competition.

The state championships highlighted the extraordinary talent of Michigan’s high school athletes, setting the stage for future competitions.
