Historic Defeat Marks New Low in Brazilian Série D Football
Sunday, October 14, was a day to forget for Acre's football teams as they faced unprecedented losses in the Brazilian Série D group stage. In a shocking turn of events, Galvez suffered a staggering 9-0 defeat to Araguaína from Mato Grosso, but the situation worsened for Humaitá, who endured an astonishing 13-0 loss against Gazin Porto Velho from Rondônia.
This monumental scoreline not only set a new record for Série D but is also the largest margin of defeat in the history of Brazil's top four divisions. The previous Série D record was held by Brasiliense, who triumphed 10-0 against Interporto in 2023. In the upper echelons of Brazilian football, Corinthians holds the record with a 10-1 victory over Tiradentes of Piauí back in 1983.
The first half of the match saw an explosive seven goals, with Ruan Costa netting four of them. Esquerdinha, Aisley, and Kadu Barone contributed to the scoreline as well. The onslaught continued in the second half, adding six more goals to the tally, with Tcharlles and Luan Viana each scoring twice, along with Kadu Barone and João Victor rounding off the rout.
The win propelled Gazin Porto Velho to 18 points in Group A2, securing their place in the second phase where they will face São Raimundo-RR, the third-placed team from Group A1. In stark contrast, Humaitá finished their campaign without securing a single point, concluding with ten losses, four goals scored, and a staggering 50 conceded.
Araguaína also progressed from the group as they claimed third place, while Galvez ended in fifth with ten points, having already been eliminated prior to their heavy loss. Independência was the only team from Acre to advance, having already qualified from Group A2 and managing a 2-2 draw against leaders Guaporé. They will meet Manauara in the next round.
