Hunter Cattoor Returns to Virginia Tech as New Assistant Coach
Virginia Tech basketball is welcoming back Hunter Cattoor, who will join Mike Young’s coaching staff after an impressive playing career with the Hokies. The 6-foot-3 guard from Orlando, Florida, initially committed to Wofford but followed Young to Virginia Tech when he took over as head coach. Following his five seasons with the Hokies and brief stints in a French professional league and the NBA G League, Cattoor is poised to make an impact on the team's future.
“I could not be more excited to welcome Hunter back home to Blacksburg as a member of our coaching staff,” Young expressed on Virginia Tech’s official website. He praised Cattoor for embodying the values of Hokies basketball, highlighting his toughness, competitiveness, and understanding of the program's culture. “I am very much looking forward to the impact he’ll have on our program,” he added.
During his tenure at Virginia Tech, Cattoor played in 152 games, starting 104 and averaging 10 points per game. He consistently performed well, averaging double figures in points over his last three seasons and boasting a career 3-point shooting percentage of 41.5%. His standout moment came in 2022 when he played a crucial role in securing the Hokies' first ACC Championship, earning the title of ACC Tournament MVP after impressive performances against Duke and North Carolina.
Cattoor expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Virginia Tech, stating, “I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to be back in Blacksburg and work with Coach Young and the rest of the staff. I look forward to meeting the student-athletes and bringing a championship mindset into the locker room.”
With Cattoor back on board, the Hokies are gearing up for an exciting new chapter in their basketball program.
