Jacob Misiorowski's Wild Pitch Strikes Tyler Freeman, Raises Concerns
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski showcased his impressive skills once again on Saturday night, dominating the Colorado Rockies with a record-setting pitch speed of 103.7 mph. However, the evening took a concerning turn in the sixth inning when a fastball from Misiorowski, clocked at 98 mph, inadvertently struck Rockies player Tyler Freeman directly in the helmet.
The incident left both athletes visibly shaken, prompting immediate attention from trainers. Despite the scare, Freeman was able to walk off the field unaided. Following the game, Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer provided an optimistic update on Freeman's condition. "He took it about as good as I think anybody can take 101 (miles per hour) off the helmet," Schaeffer stated, according to the Denver Post. "Obviously, it didn’t feel good, but he seems fine."
Safety in baseball is a constant concern, particularly with the increasing velocity of pitches, highlighting the importance of protective gear for players.
