Jaguars' Jabbar Muhammad Making Strides in Roster Competition
Jabbar Muhammad, a second-year cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is drawing significant interest from the coaching staff as he impresses during the team's minicamp. After a practice session on Tuesday, head coach Liam Coen highlighted Muhammad’s performance, and the praise continued on Wednesday from defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.
Campanile remarked, "I think he's improved a ton. But just watching him, he's really been super detailed with his technique. I think that's one of the things that shows up. Very, very deliberate in the way that he's practicing, and I think that's created some takeaways for him and making some plays on the ball." He noted that Muhammad is consistently involved in plays, demonstrating marked improvement this spring.
John Shipley of Jaguars on SI reported that Muhammad had a standout practice on Wednesday, achieving multiple pass breakups, including one in the red zone, along with his second interception of the minicamp. This level of performance is consistent with his track record, as Muhammad recorded 22 pass breakups and three interceptions during his last two seasons at Oregon.
While the Jaguars’ cornerback lineup includes established players like Travis Hunter, Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, and Jarrian Jones, the competition for the remaining roster spots is intense. Christian Braswell is considered a strong candidate for one of these spots, but he is not guaranteed a position, leaving the door open for Muhammad to make a compelling case for a spot on the final roster.
Undrafted in 2025, Muhammad spent his rookie season on the Jaguars' practice squad and is now poised to make a strong impression this summer.
