Jalen McMillan Poised for Bigger Role with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After an impressive debut season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jalen McMillan, the former standout from the University of Washington, faced significant challenges in his second year due to a fractured vertebra in his neck. This injury curtailed his participation to just four games during the 2025 season, where he managed to achieve 12 receptions for 178 yards. Now fully recovered, McMillan is eager to make a significant impact in his third NFL season.

The departure of All-Pro Mike Evans to the San Francisco 49ers opens the door for McMillan to step up as a key player in the Buccaneers' offense. He is set to join forces with fellow All-Pro Chris Godwin and former first-round pick Emeka Egbuka, creating a formidable trio for quarterback Baker Mayfield this upcoming fall.

“I am happy,” McMillan expressed in an interview with Pewter Report. “Just to be out there and to catch balls from Baker and just to run on my feet, I feel good… I am definitely taking appreciation for the small things and celebrating small wins, and call my mom and dad every day." His positive outlook reflects his gratitude for the opportunity to return to the field.

Having spent time contemplating his recovery, McMillan is determined to seize this chance without hesitation. “I had to sit in my bed and wonder, 'Is my neck going to heal correctly?' So, as soon as I was given the opportunity to play again, I knew that I could not look back," he stated.

With a promising track record of scoring 7 touchdowns in just five games at the end of the 2024 season, McMillan is ready to establish himself as one of Tampa Bay's premier receivers. Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles has acknowledged McMillan's resilience, stating, “Jalen's tough. His mental toughness is unbelievable," highlighting the receiver's drive to excel on the field.
