Jalen McMillan Set to Step Up for Buccaneers After Overcoming Neck Injury
Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan is eager to make a significant impact this season after fully recovering from a severe neck injury that limited his playtime last year. McMillan faced a challenging situation when he fractured three vertebrae and suffered herniated discs from a fall during a preseason matchup, which not only threatened his season but also posed risks to his career.
Last year, the talented receiver participated in just four games, finishing with 12 receptions for 178 yards. Reflecting on his recovery, McMillan expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am happy. Just to be out there and to catch balls from Baker [Mayfield]...I feel good." He emphasized the importance of cherishing every moment, saying, "I am definitely taking appreciation for the small things and celebrating small wins."
McMillan, who was selected by the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2024 draft, previously demonstrated his skills with 37 catches for 461 yards and eight touchdowns over 13 games. With Mike Evans now playing for the San Francisco 49ers, McMillan's contributions are more crucial than ever.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles praised McMillan's resilience, saying, "Jalen's tough. His mental toughness is unbelievable." He noted that McMillan's competitive spirit and determination to excel give the team confidence in his ability to perform under pressure.
