Jayson Tatum Reflects on NBA Finals, Expresses Neutral Stance Towards Knicks and Spurs
Jayson Tatum, the star forward for the Boston Celtics, finds himself in the same position as countless NBA fans, enjoying the Finals from the comfort of his home. Recently, he shared his thoughts on this year's championship contenders, the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.
Tatum clarified that he holds no bias towards either team in the Finals. “I’m not rooting for anybody, I’m also not rooting against anybody,” he stated. His previous success in the league seems to give him a sense of peace regarding the matchup. “I think it does help that I’ve won a championships already, so helps me sleep a little better at night,” he added.
The Celtics claimed the championship in 2024, overcoming the Dallas Mavericks, led by Luka Doncic, in a 4-1 series victory. This win marked a significant moment for the franchise, as it was their first title since 2008. Tatum faced a major setback in 2025 when he ruptured his Achilles, but he made a remarkable comeback just ten months later.
During the 2025-26 season, which he resumed on March 6, Tatum contributed to Boston securing the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference with an impressive 56-26 record. However, the Celtics faced an early exit in the playoffs, losing to the Philadelphia 76ers in a dramatic seven-game series. Tatum's performance included averages of 21.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.4 steals over 16 regular-season games, setting the stage for his aspirations to lead the Celtics back to glory next season.
