Joe Rogan Analyzes Ilia Topuria’s Recent Knockouts and Highlights Overlooked Details

Ilia Topuria has been making waves in the UFC with his impressive performances, but Joe Rogan believes there are key aspects surrounding some of his victories that merit further examination. The reigning lightweight champion is set to face another formidable opponent, Justin Gaethje, in the main event at an upcoming UFC event at the White House.

Topuria's ascent includes a notable knockout of Charles Oliveira last summer, which earned him the title of two-division champion. Prior to that, he achieved the remarkable feat of knocking out both Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, leading some to label this streak as one of the best in MMA history. However, Rogan feels there are nuances to consider regarding the circumstances of those two featherweight victories.

During a recent episode of the JRE MMA Show, Rogan discussed Topuria's remarkable three-fight knockout streak. “He’s got three all-time great KOs in a row,” he stated, emphasizing the significance of the accomplishment. However, he also pointed out potential caveats: “Yes (there’s asterisks). Charles no, Max Holloway yes, because he cut the weight — but that was his decision,” Rogan explained. He also expressed concern over Volkanovski’s readiness to fight Topuria. “You got head-kicked four months ago into a coma. There’s no chance you should be taking a fight with the scariest puncher in the division.”

Max Holloway returned to featherweight just six months after his bout with Gaethje at lightweight, while Volkanovski faced Topuria only four months after being knocked out by Islam Makhachev in October 2023. Despite these concerns, Rogan continues to view Topuria as one of the top fighters in the sport, suggesting that a victory over Gaethje could solidify his position as the best in the division.
