Jorge Soler of the Angels Moves to 10-Day Injured List Due to Oblique Strain
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels have announced that outfielder and designated hitter Jorge Soler has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a strain in his left oblique. This decision came on Saturday following Soler’s prior absence from Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to hip tightness. He also exited a game earlier in the week against the Colorado Rockies.
So far this season, Soler has posted a batting average of .220, hitting nine home runs and driving in 33 runs, while maintaining an OPS of .702 across 58 games. Earlier in the season, he faced a suspension from MLB after an altercation with Atlanta pitcher Reynaldo López on April 7, where both players were penalized for an on-field brawl. Soler initially received a seven-game suspension but successfully appealed, resulting in a four-game ban.
The 34-year-old veteran had a challenging previous season, appearing in only 82 games due to recurring lower back issues. In a related roster update, first baseman Nolan Schanuel has been reinstated from his ankle injury and will be starting at first base against the Dodgers on Saturday night. Additionally, outfielder Gustavo Campero is now on the injured list with a fracture in his right hand, and catcher Omar Martinez has been designated for assignment.
