Kelsey Plum's Intense Rehab Efforts Set Stage for Return to Action

The Los Angeles Sparks might soon welcome back their star player, Kelsey Plum, who is expected to return just in time for Friday's game against the Dallas Wings. After sitting out the last three contests due to a right ankle sprain, Plum is now listed as probable for the matchup, a promising sign for a team that has struggled without its top scorer.

Despite being sidelined, Plum remained committed to her recovery. In a conversation with the media on Thursday, the four-time WNBA All-Star disclosed her rigorous rehabilitation routine. "I have been just rehabbing like a maniac, sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber, red-lighting my way back," she shared, demonstrating her determination to return to the court swiftly.

With a record of 4-5, the Sparks have faced challenges in Plum's absence, losing two of their last three games. The veteran guard sustained her injury during practice on May 26 and opted to remain behind for treatment rather than joining the team on their recent road trip. This decision appears to be paying off, as Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts noted that Plum participated fully in Thursday's practice and seemed ready to play. "She looks great," Roberts commented. "I think she'll be ready."

Prior to her injury, Plum was showcasing an impressive performance, leading the WNBA with an average of 26.8 points per game while shooting an astounding 58.9% from the field and 48.8% from beyond the arc. Her offensive prowess has significantly contributed to the Sparks' early season success and has raised hopes for the team's playoff aspirations, as they haven't reached the postseason since 2020.

While acknowledging her individual achievements, Plum emphasized her focus on the team's success. She viewed her time away from the game as a chance for younger players to gain crucial experience within the team's system. "I think it's a blessing in disguise," she said. "People get opportunity to figure out a little bit more of coach's system, get a little bit more reps and more responsibility and more feel." As her return potentially looms, Plum's mindset is clear: "I'm just going to insert myself back and do whatever the team needs. I just want to win."
