Kyle Williams reveals real reason for jersey number change decision

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Kyle Williams was set to make a minor change this offseason.

It was previously announced that the second-year wide receiver would be switching his number from 18, which he wore during his rookie season last year, to No. 8, which was worn by veteran receiver Stefon Diggs.

However, it came out that he would keep his original number. And that sparked speculation that maybe a reunion with Diggs was in the works.

On Wednesday, when speaking with reporters at the new Patriots practice field behind the New Balance Athletics Center, Williams explained why he ultimately made the decision.

"I just had a change of heart,” Williams said. “And then my mom, she just didn’t want to get a new jersey, so your boy moved a little too fast. But no, just a little change of heart. I’m just happy that I’m back on the field."
