Logan Webb Emerges as a True Ace for the Giants

In a strong performance at Oracle Park on Sunday, San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb showcased his skills, effectively navigating early scoring threats from the Chicago Cubs. In the first inning, Webb skillfully induced Ian Happ into a double play to escape a challenging situation. He faced another potential run in the third but managed to hold his ground, getting Alex Bregman to fly out after Cubs player Pete Crow-Armstrong advanced to third base.

Despite giving up a double to Moises Ballesteros with two outs in the fifth, Webb kept the Cubs off the scoreboard as Dansby Swanson fouled out. With his team securing a 5-1 victory, Webb improved his record to 4-4 and extended his streak of quality starts, having allowed no earned runs across seven hits in eight innings. This win prevented the Giants from being swept by the Cubs for the first time since 2013.

Webb expressed his desire to pitch deeper into the game, telling manager Tony Vitello, "I pretty much said F year, I'm good. Let's go," although he was ultimately taken out. Considered one of the most underrated pitchers in Major League Baseball, Webb has delivered impressive performances recently, pitching at least seven innings and allowing one run or fewer in his last three outings. Since returning from the injured list, he boasts a remarkable 0.66 earned run average and 0.73 WHIP over 27.1 innings.

While other pitchers like Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes have garnered more attention as potential aces, Webb's consistent performance has been overlooked in discussions about top MLB pitchers. Despite ranking among the league leaders in games started, innings pitched, and strikeouts, he finished fourth in the Cy Young voting last season. Since 2021, Webb has maintained an impressive ERA of 3.47 or lower with at least 26 starts each season.

As the trade deadline approaches, the question remains: will Webb finally receive the recognition he deserves, or will he continue to fly under the radar despite his remarkable achievements on the mound?
