Lou Merloni Advocates for Strategic Trades as Red Sox Face Decision at Deadline

He acknowledged the potential backlash from fans but stressed the importance of planning for the future, stating, “If you can add a guy at the deadline, even though you’re trading away a starter and a reliever… I think you try to do that as well.”

Merloni highlighted that the team's most pressing needs are in the bullpen and starting pitching. He noted that the Red Sox possess valuable assets that other teams might pursue, suggesting that they could be among the few sellers in a league where many teams are still in contention.
