Mishicot’s Juliana Doerner Shatters State Track Record and Claims Gold
LA CROSSE — The WIAA state track and field championships held at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium on June 5-6 showcased numerous talented athletes from Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties. Among them, Mishicot's Juliana Doerner set a remarkable milestone by breaking the Division 3 girls state meet record in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at an impressive 24.04 seconds on June 6.
In addition to her record-setting performance, Doerner also earned a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.15 seconds. Kohler's Maggie Behler also had a standout meet, securing third place in the 3,200-meter race (10:49.51) and sixth in the 1,600 meters (5:05.98). The area’s other notable girls’ performances included Jenna Dirks from Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, who claimed sixth in the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 6 inches, and Manitowoc Lutheran's Evan Manzano, who finished fifth in the triple jump (36-1).
The Mishicot girls' 800-meter relay team, featuring Kambrya Christoffel, Doerner, Tatum Fix, and Kensington Rosenow, placed fourth with a time of 1:44.25. Moreover, Kohler's girls' 3,200-meter relay team, consisting of Lillian Pociask, Maria Cardenas, Ella Loest, and Behler, earned a silver medal with a time of 9:30.94. Kohler's Carter Zimmeremann also made headlines by securing silver in the boys' high jump at 6 feet, 5 inches, marking the highest finish for any boys’ athlete from Manitowoc or Sheboygan County.
Among other standout performances, Howards Grove's Odin Schulz finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (49.08), while Manitowoc Lutheran's Trenton Schuettpelz took fifth in the triple jump (44-0). Kohler's boys' 3,200-meter relay team, comprising Jack Gasparick, Oscar Voice, Magnus Avery, and Diego Cardenas, placed fifth (8:09.80). Additionally, Howards Grove’s 1,600-meter relay team, featuring Montgomery Fetterer, Max Loomis, John Athorp, and Schulz, earned a fourth-place finish (3:27.70).
In Division 2, Sheboygan Falls junior Nora Halverson stood out with two state medals, taking third in the long jump (18-0.25) and fourth in the triple jump (37-4.5). Other noteworthy performances included Kiel's Maddison McDole, who tied for fifth in the high jump (5-4), and Two Rivers' Malasia Lee, who placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.29). Plymouth's boys' 3,200-meter relay team also earned a medal with a sixth-place finish (8:07.44).
In Division 1, Sheboygan South's David Venegas was the only area athlete to medal, securing fifth place in the boys' 400-meter dash with a time of 48.55 seconds.
