Heading into March, there’s plenty for baseball fans to look forward to. The regular season begins towards the end of the month, but there’s still plenty of news to come before then.

MLB Spring Breakout Changes

Spring Breakout has become a tradition in MLB, but it’s already undergoing change.

The annual tournament, which first arose in the 2024 season, showcases baseball’s future stars with their respective clubs as they play exhibition games against each other over a few days.

The event will remain the same this season, and will be held from March 19-22, but will undergo some changes come 2027 spring training.

MLB announced the event will split into two single-elimination tournaments — one for the Cactus League in Arizona and the other for the Grapefruit League in Florida.

WBC Exhibition Matches to Start Tuesday

With the WBC coming later this week, international teams are doing everything they can to get into shape for the tournament.

15 games take place Tuesday, and each of them are between an MLB club and an international side competing in the World Baseball Classic. The same 15 international teams will play a second exhibition match Wednesday, giving all 30 MLB teams an opportunity to play one of these teams.

Games begin at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, and continue throughout the day with the final games beginning at 3:05 p.m. PT.

Blue Jays Announce Scherzer Signing

After the New York Post’s Jon Heyman broke the news of Scherzer’s signing in Feb., the Blue Jays officially announced the starter’s return to Toronto.

He is one of several high-profile pitchers last season’s runners-up have added in the offseason, with the likes of Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce also making the trip up north.

Scherzer spent 2025 with the Blue Jays, playing just 17 games and throwing 85 innings pitched. he had a 5.19 ERA and 82 strikeouts during the regular season, and a 3.77 ERA and 11 strikeouts through three starts in the postseason.
