MLB punishes Tigers star for intentionally throwing at Red Sox batter
Major League Baseball announced a six-game suspension for Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Framber Valdez on May 6 for intentionally throwing a pitch at Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story.
Valdez incited a benches-clearing brawl with the pitch, but said after the game it was not intentional. MLB disagreed.

Valdez can appeal the suspension, which effectively takes him off the field for one turn in the rotation.
Boston was leading Detroit 10-2 in the top of the fourth inning after Valdez allowed back-to-back home runs at Comerica Park. His first pitch to Story was a fastball high and tight, that hit Story in the back as he ducked away from the pitch.
In addition to Valdez, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch was also suspended one game; he will serve that suspension May 6.
