MMA Veteran Jay Silva Passes Away at 45

Jay Silva, a seasoned mixed martial arts fighter, has tragically passed away at the age of 45. His death was confirmed by Ed Buckley, a former coach of Silva, following an announcement from FAME MMA, the last organization where Silva competed. The circumstances surrounding his passing have yet to be disclosed.

Throughout his nearly two-decade career, Silva held a professional MMA record of 12 wins, 13 losses, and 1 draw. He fought twice in the UFC in 2010 and 2011, facing opponents CB Dolloway and Chris Leben, both of whom defeated him by unanimous decision. Silva's journey in MMA began with his debut in Bellator in May 2010, where he suffered a loss to Hector Lombard. However, he bounced back with a victory against Gimyale Adkins in May 2011.

Silva is perhaps best known for his fierce rivalry with Michal Materla in the KSW promotion, where they faced off three times. Their final bout occurred at KSW 26 in March 2014, where they competed for the middleweight championship. Although Materla won the series 2-1, Silva's trilogy with him is fondly remembered in KSW history.

In the years following his time with KSW, Silva remained active in various promotions, participating in events ranging from Golden Boy MMA to Bash Boxing. His last appearance was an exhibition kickboxing match in January, where he lost to Tomasz Sarara due to a second-round TKO.

Tributes have begun to pour in on social media from friends and fellow fighters, honoring Silva's legacy in the sport. The KSW team extended their condolences, saying, "The whole KSW Team would like to send condolences to the family and friends of late former KSW fighter and middleweight title challenger, Jay Silva. Rest in peace."
