Moorestown Claims State Title; Shawnee Boys and Haddonfield Girls Fall Short

Moorestown has reclaimed its status as a powerhouse in girls lacrosse, while the Shawnee boys and Haddonfield girls teams faced tough defeats in their respective state championship matches held at the College of New Jersey on a sweltering day.

In the NJSIAA Group 3 girls championship, Moorestown triumphed over Summit with a score of 7-5. Key contributions came from Meghan Hock and Ella Brittain, who each netted two goals. Other scorers included Mazey Hinshillwood, Brynn Richards, and Charlotte Lynch, who each contributed one goal. Goalkeepers Samantha Caldiero and Gabby Rockwell each made two crucial saves, helping the Quakers secure their 26th state title and their first since 2021.

In the NJSIAA Group 3 boys championship, Shawnee faced a challenging game against Summit, ultimately losing 9-3. The Renegades were led by Tyler Rotkowitz, Brett Lundberg, and Tommy McAneney, who each scored once in their final game together. Despite a tight score of 4-2 entering the fourth quarter, Summit pulled ahead to clinch the victory. The senior trio, who collectively amassed an impressive 913 career points, reflected on their time together, with McAneney stating, “I love these guys... It’s a blessing just to have been able to play these past four years.”

Haddonfield’s girls team also faced disappointment in the NJSIAA Group 1 championship, narrowly losing to Glen Ridge 10-9 in overtime. After being down by two goals at halftime, the Bulldogs rallied to force overtime, but fell just short. Lauren Hamblin, Riley Austin, and Avery Sinnes each scored twice for Haddonfield, who ended their season with an impressive 18-3 record. Austin commented on the team’s bond, expressing, “We were such a tight-knit family throughout these past couple of months.”
