Newcastle United Considering Sale of £55 Million Forward Following Disappointing Season

Newcastle United may be looking to offload striker Yoane Wissa after an underwhelming debut season with the club. The 29-year-old forward was brought in for £55 million from Brentford, following the sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a staggering £125 million. Isak's departure left Newcastle in search of a suitable replacement, and Wissa was seen as a promising option after a productive season with 24 goal involvements for the Bees.

However, Wissa's first year in a Newcastle shirt did not meet expectations, as he only managed four goal contributions, significantly lower than his previous output. As a result, the club is reportedly considering moving on from the forward, according to Football Insider's Pete O’Rourke.

"Newcastle United are ready to sign off on a 'big-name signing' once they can get striker Yoane Wissa off their wage bill this summer," O'Rourke noted. Financially, the club is in a better position following the sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for €70 million, which could facilitate the acquisition of Wissa's successor.

Insider sources indicate that Newcastle is aware they might not recover the entire £55 million spent on Wissa. Former Everton executive Keith Wyness suggested that the club would rather take a loss on the forward than hold out for a significant return this summer.

In the coming weeks, Wissa will have the opportunity to showcase his talents on an international stage, as he is set to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, facing off against teams like Portugal and Colombia.
