NYC Launches Affordable Soccer Jerseys for Upcoming World Cup
Starting June 12 at 9 a.m. ET, New York City will release a limited edition of World Cup-themed soccer jerseys priced at $50, providing fans with a budget-friendly option compared to the typically high costs of official merchandise. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that 1,500 jerseys, crafted in Brooklyn, aim to allow New Yorkers to proudly showcase their city as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches.
These jerseys, part of a larger initiative that includes $50 ticket lotteries and free viewing events around the city, come in three distinct color combinations: black and white, yellow and black, and orange and blue. Each jersey features a unique badge that combines a soccer ball and the Big Apple emblem on the left chest, with a pigeon badge on the right. The front prominently displays “NEW YORK CITY,” while the back showcases the number “26.”
“Jerseys represent more than just the team you support,” Mamdani stated in an interview with GQ. “They are about pride in where you come from and who you are. With this limited run, we are offering New Yorkers an affordable jersey made for New Yorkers, by New Yorkers.” Brooklyn designer Arsh Raziuddin was behind the creative process, with production handled by Mazzi Sports, a family-owned business that ensured all jerseys were handmade locally.
The jerseys will be available exclusively for purchase at the NYC City Store for approximately $50. In comparison, FIFA's limited-edition jerseys are listed for $375, while adult jerseys from Adidas can cost up to $160, and a USA Aero-FIT Authentic Jersey by Nike retails for $175.
These jerseys reflect the city’s ongoing efforts to provide accessible ways for residents to engage with the World Cup festivities. Previously, New York City introduced a lottery for $50 tickets to games at MetLife Stadium and announced a watch party for the final match in Central Park's Great Lawn. “City Hall’s commitment to tackling the cost of living crisis isn’t limited to making it easier to afford home or childcare,” Mamdani emphasized, “It extends to making it possible for every New Yorker to take part in the things that make us human.”
