Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame to Relocate Induction Ceremony to Springfield in 2027
The Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame has announced that it will host its annual induction ceremony in Springfield starting in 2027, marking a significant transition after two decades in Columbus. The news was shared on June 19 by the Hall of Fame in collaboration with the Greater Springfield Partnership, with a special announcement event scheduled for June 29 at 11 a.m. in Wittenberg University’s Historic 1929 Fieldhouse.
Jeanne Gulick, the Board President of the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, expressed excitement about this change, stating, “This is a monumental shift for our organization. While Columbus has been a wonderful home for us since our founding, Springfield’s passion for the game and its commitment to preserving sports history make it the perfect place for our next chapter.”
The induction ceremony is set to occur on May 1, 2027, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. The Hall of Fame, established in 2005, has a rich history of honoring basketball contributors, having recognized 339 individuals, 55 high school teams, and 33 college teams over the years.
Although there was an initiative to create a dedicated Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame Museum in Springfield, it ultimately did not materialize, with Columbus and Cleveland emerging as the leading contenders for the Hall's home. Despite this, Springfield has always held a special connection to the sport, being the hometown of notable figures like Wayne Embry, Newt Oliver, and Wayne Wiseman.
