Orioles Fall Short Despite Three Home Runs in 6-4 Defeat to Blue Jays

TORONTO — The Baltimore Orioles faced a tough challenge against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, despite launching three home runs, ultimately succumbing to a 6-4 defeat at Rogers Centre. This loss marked the end of a remarkable streak, as the Orioles had triumphed in their last ten games when hitting three or more homers, dating back to July 2025.

The Orioles (31-34) struggled early due to a rocky performance from pitcher Kyle Bradish, who allowed five runs in four innings, undermining the team's efforts. "He wasn’t as sharp and as crisp as he has been," manager Craig Albernaz commented. "Falling behind, some bad counts... that’s when they did the damage."

Colton Cowser got the scoring started with a solo home run in the second inning, and Pete Alonso added to the tally with a two-run shot in the sixth. Blaze Alexander followed with a homer in the seventh, helping Baltimore narrow the gap after trailing 5-1 in the third. However, the Blue Jays' bullpen, featuring Tyler Rogers and Louis Varland, managed to keep the Orioles from scoring in the final two innings.

Bradish, who had been performing well in recent games, faced difficulties as the Blue Jays capitalized on a fourth-inning rally that included a three-run homer from Ernie Clement and an RBI single from Andrés Giménez. "Apart from the Clement homer, I think it was balls just found their way up the middle," Bradish reflected on his outing.

Despite the setback, the Orioles showed resilience. Cowser, who experienced discomfort after colliding with the wall while fielding a deep fly ball, reported that he felt fine to continue. Alonso's home run was his 13th of the season, tying him with Gunnar Henderson for the team lead. As the series continues, the Orioles are set to rely on Shane Baz in the final game, while the Blue Jays will counter with former Oriole Kevin Gausman.
