Orioles Welcome Back Closer Ryan Helsley from Injured List

SEATTLE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have brought back closer Ryan Helsley from the 15-day injured list just in time for their game against the Mariners on Tuesday evening. Helsley, 31, had been sidelined since April 29 due to inflammation in his right elbow.

To accommodate Helsley’s return, the team optioned right-hander Anthony Nunez to Triple-A Norfolk. “Overall, I feel really good,” Helsley expressed. “I’m just excited to be back up on the team.”

In December, Helsley signed a two-year contract worth $28 million with Baltimore. Prior to his injury, he had an impressive 2.53 ERA and successfully converted all seven of his save opportunities this season.

“Getting Helsley back right now, it trickles everyone down,” commented Orioles manager Craig Albernaz. “Even though the bullpen did an outstanding job navigating these two months, it feels good having Helsley back.”

The Orioles have been relying heavily on their bullpen, making Helsley’s return a significant boost as they continue their season.
