Palace City Baseball Set to Celebrate Home Opener with Special Events on June 16

MITCHELL — The Palace City Baseball Association has exciting plans for the Post 18 Senior Legion's home opener on Tuesday, June 16, marking the team's first home game in nearly three years. The event will feature a matchup against Helena, Montana, starting at 7 p.m.

Before the game kicks off, attendees can look forward to a ceremonial presentation of the colors by the Legion color guard, with Post 18 player Quinten Wilson set to perform the National Anthem on trumpet. Fans will have access to concessions, and additional festivities are in the works for the evening.

The opener will serve as the culmination of a full day of baseball action, beginning with the 13-and-under team facing Brookings in a doubleheader at noon at Drake Field. Simultaneously, the 14U team will compete against Renner at Cadwell Park, while the Junior Legion team takes on Harrisburg at 5 p.m. at Drake Field.

Palace City Baseball President Jeff McCormick expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "This is an exciting moment not only for our players, but for the Mitchell community and the tradition of Legion Baseball. We're proud to help bring Post 18 Legion Baseball back to Mitchell and create an atmosphere that celebrates the game, our players, and our community."

This marks the inaugural summer in which the PCBA oversees summer baseball in Mitchell, representing South Dakota Class A for ages 13 to 16, along with the Post 18 Junior and Senior Legion teams. The return of Legion baseball follows a suspension of the program in the middle of the 2023 season due to serious allegations involving team members, which led to a restructuring that allowed for the revival of the teams.
