Patriots 2023 NFL Draft gets regraded over three years later
How good of a job did the New England Patriots do in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Patriots came away with a horde of players in the draft that year. New England selected 12 players — Christian Gonzalez, Keion White, Marte Mapu, Jake Andrews, Chad Ryland, Sidy Sow, Antonio Mafi, Kayshon Boutte, Bryce Baringer, DeMario Douglas, Ameer Speed and Isaiah Bolden — in the event. Four of New England’s selections helped the team reach the Super Bowl last season.
According to CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco in his regrading of the collection of talent that all 32 teams came away with in the 2023 draft, the Patriots get a “B-” in hindsight for their selections after initially receiving a “C+” in the immediate aftermath of the event.
Gonzalez turned into a second-team All-Pro performer in New England in 2024 and is still with the team. Boutte emerged as the Patriots’ No. 2 receiver last season and impressed in the playoffs. Bryce Baringer is the team’s starting punter and will also be back for next season. Douglas has been a steady option for the Patriots in the slot and is due for an increased role in the offense next season.
Outside of those four players, the rest of the picks that the Patriots made in 2023 did not become key difference-makers for the team.
As is the case every year, the Patriots overlooked players who turned into All-Pro performers in the 2023 draft, but they came away with foundational pieces that have been pivotal for them in their efforts to contend for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
