Power Outage Disrupts ABC Broadcast of Texas Tech vs. Tennessee Softball Game

The excitement of the Women's College World Series was momentarily interrupted on Saturday as a power outage affected ABC's broadcast of the highly anticipated softball matchup between Texas Tech and Tennessee. Just as the second inning was getting underway, viewers experienced a sudden loss of coverage.

During the technical glitch, ESPN's Kris Budden stepped in to provide updates while the network's Squeeze Play program aired. Budden revealed that the disruption was due to a “power outage” at Devon Park, where the game was taking place. As the production crew worked to resolve the issue, Holly Rowe took to Instagram, offering live commentary to keep fans engaged.

After a delay of roughly a half-hour, ABC successfully resumed coverage towards the end of the third inning. However, the broadcast returned with limited resources, featuring only one camera angle positioned behind home plate and lacking any visual score updates. Ironically, as announcer Beth Mowins addressed the audience about the technical difficulties, the feed cut to a commercial break.

In a light-hearted moment, Budden reassured fans, saying, “For those of you who have been waiting for the Women’s College World Series, they are still dealing with technical difficulties, but we are gonna get it right back out to ABC right now in the best form that we can.” By the time the fifth inning rolled around, all graphics and multiple camera angles were restored, allowing the game to proceed smoothly.

This incident underscores the unpredictable nature of live broadcasts, especially during significant sporting events.
