Preston Stout Shines as Oklahoma State Golf Team Secures Fourth Place at NCAA Championships
Preston Stout of Oklahoma State University surged to the forefront of the NCAA men's golf championship with an impressive 7-under-par 65 during the third round held at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California. This remarkable performance ties him for the second-lowest score ever recorded by a Cowboy at the NCAA Championships.
After beginning the tournament with a 1-over 73, Stout rebounded with a 5-under 67 on Saturday, making a significant climb in the standings. His latest round has positioned him one shot ahead of three competitors.
The Cowboys concluded Sunday’s round in a three-way tie for fourth place, needing to maintain their position among the top eight after Monday's round to qualify for the match play bracket. Following an initial 7-over-par 295, which left them in 20th place, the team dramatically improved their score by 21 strokes in the second round, propelling them into contention. On Sunday, they recorded a score of 287, and they currently lead ninth place, occupied by the University of Oklahoma, by eight strokes.
The fourth round of stroke play is scheduled for Monday, with the match play quarterfinals and semifinals taking place on Tuesday. The championship match, consisting of 36 holes, is set for Wednesday.
Stout's stellar performance highlights the strong potential of the Oklahoma State golf program as they aim for success in the tournament.
