PSG Talent Wants to Stay Despite Exit Links
After scoring a brace in the Coupe Gambardella final (3-2) against Montpellier on Friday, Mathis Jangeal could stay at PSG next season.
Contrary to some rumors, the Parisian academy player still hopes to reach an agreement with his club.
He is unquestionably the man of the match. In the Coupe Gambardella final against Montpellier, Jangeal provided an assist for his teammate Younes Idder before scoring the other two goals for PSG.
In such a high-profile match, his performance will only increase his value on the transfer market. This is not good news for the capital club, which is struggling to convince its player.
Out of contract, the 17-year-old striker has not found an agreement with his management. This Saturday, L'Equipe again claims that Jangeal should not sign his first professional contract with PSG.
His future would lie more in Germany, confirms the sports daily's website. However, this is not at all the version of the player's entourage.
According to his father, the Parisian academy player remains in discussions with his boyhood club. "Who said that Jangeal is going to leave the club?" asked the striker's close associate, via Foot 01.
"We love the club. I have been a Parisian for so many years, and I will be again and again. I hear too much noise saying that Mathis is going to leave, so we need to stop spreading false information," he demanded.
"There are discussions (normal for an expiring contract); we hope." His departure is therefore not confirmed, provided that the two parties find common ground. Jangeal finds himself more than ever in a position of strength after his display at the Stade de France.
PSG is a team that has, in recent years, made an effort to give prominence to its young players. But not only from its academy, but also from Ligue 1 and abroad in general.
To tell the truth, there are still certain symptoms from the past that keep some players from finding enough time to develop and end up leaving.
Noham Kamara is a recent example. The defender left on loan to Lyon in February of this year due to a lack of opportunities.
Ibrahim Mbaye is another example of few minutes in the final stretch of the season, despite his good performance in the first half of the football year. We will see what happens with Jangeal, but it is not surprising that his situation remains up in the air.
