The Boston Red Sox are calling up Tayron Guerrero, a veteran pitcher they signed to a minor league contract before the season, according to Andrew Parker.

Guerrero has pitched in 113 big league games, but not since 2019. The Red Sox signed him to a minor league deal on Jan. 9. He has been pitching in Triple-A and will not get a chance to return to the big leagues. He is 35 years old, but his fastball can reach up to 104 mph, and he has been pitching well in Triple-A.

He has a 0.92 ERA in 15 games in Worcester this year. He has three saves and has been impressive. He last pitched in the big leagues for the Miami Marlins, appearing in 52 games in 2019. In 2022, he played in Japan, posting a 3.52 ERA in 49 games. According to MassLive's Christopher Smith, he learned his splitter from Rōki Sasaki.

The corresponding move is unknown at this time, but it will be a good opportunity for him to show he can still contribute in the big leagues. He has 22 strikeouts this season, and he will look to continue racking up strikeouts in the big leagues.

Guerrero has bounced around since 2019, and he may feel some pressure to perform after such a long time away from a big league mound. The Red Sox will start a six-game homestand on Tuesday, facing the Minnesota Twins and then the Atlanta Braves. Guerrero could make his Red Sox debut against the Twins.
