Riley Crean Joins Orlando Magic Coaching Staff as Assistant Coach

Riley Crean, the son of former Indiana University basketball coach Tom Crean, has reportedly been appointed as an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic, as reported by Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype. This move marks a significant step in Riley's career within the NBA coaching landscape.

Previously, Crean served as the head video coordinator for the Dallas Mavericks, where he spent four years. During three of those years, he collaborated closely with Sean Sweeney, who has recently been named the new head coach of the Magic after his tenure as an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs, who recently reached the NBA Finals.

A talented athlete in his own right, Riley excelled in both basketball and baseball at Bloomington North High School, earning all-state honors in baseball. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 35th round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft. After a year at IMG Academy in Florida, he continued his education and athletic career at the University of Georgia, where he played baseball and served as a student manager for the basketball team.

Riley graduated in 2022 and has been part of the Mavericks' organization since then, gaining invaluable experience that he now brings to the Magic as they look to build on their recent successes.
