Robert Saleh Highlights Cam Ward's Resilience as a Key Trait for Titans Leadership
NASHVILLE — This year, the Tennessee Titans coaching position attracted Robert Saleh largely due to quarterback Cam Ward. During the recent voluntary OTAs, the head coach reflected on Ward's character, noting that his mindset is a significant factor in his potential success with the team.
Saleh praised Ward's attitude, saying, “What’s cool about him; he kind of has a—I don’t want to say an ‘I can give two shits’ attitude. But he moves on to the next play if he makes a mistake. If something doesn’t go his way, it’s completely out of its mind and he’s on to next play which I think is a major requirement for any athlete but something he clearly has.” This perspective highlights Ward's ability to remain composed under pressure.
Ward, who was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, faced a challenging rookie season. The Titans concluded their regular season with a 3-13 record for the second year in a row, a disappointment compounded by a mid-season coaching change and the firing of their head coach. Both Ward and Geno Smith ended the year as the most sacked quarterbacks in the league, each enduring 55 sacks.
Despite these setbacks, Ward showed remarkable resilience by starting all 17 games. He did suffer an AC Joint sprain in the season finale against Jacksonville, but fortunately, it did not necessitate offseason surgery. Cleared to resume throwing in March, Ward is ready to continue developing his skills as a pivotal leader for the Titans.
