Ryan Craig Takes the Helm as Head Coach of the Vegas Golden Knights
Ryan Craig, a former forward for the Tampa Bay Lightning, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Vegas Golden Knights, stepping in to replace John Tortorella, the first NHL coach he played for. Craig, who was drafted by the Lightning in the eighth round of the 2002 NHL Draft, began his professional career in the American Hockey League and ECHL before making his NHL debut during the 2005-06 season.
Throughout his tenure with the Lightning, Craig played a mix of games in both the NHL and AHL until he transitioned to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2010-11 season. He later finished his playing career with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Following his retirement, Craig quickly transitioned to coaching, joining the Golden Knights as an assistant coach in the 2017-18 season. His dedication and skills in this role led to his promotion as head coach of the AHL's Henderson Silver Knights prior to the 2023-24 season. After three successful seasons in that position, he has now been entrusted with the top coaching position of the Golden Knights.
Craig's journey through the ranks of hockey has uniquely prepared him for this leadership role in the NHL.
