Saints' Trade Rumors Generate Buzz for Packers and Bengals

The New Orleans Saints have stirred speculation within the NFL following their recent signing of Travis Etienne Jr. to a lucrative four-year deal worth $52 million. This move has not only revamped the team's running back lineup but has also raised questions about the future of veteran Alvin Kamara.

Kamara, a seasoned player and five-time Pro Bowler, is coming off a disappointing season where he recorded his lowest career numbers with just 471 rushing yards and 186 receiving yards. As he approaches his 31st birthday in July, the Saints may consider parting ways with him. ESPN's Dan Graziano highlighted that both the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals could be interested in acquiring Kamara, should New Orleans decide to make a change.

“The Saints' beloved veteran turns 31 in July and posted career lows in touches (164) and scrimmage yards (657) in 2025,” Graziano noted, suggesting that the Saints' investment in Etienne, along with a crowded backfield featuring Kendre Miller, Audric Estime, and Ty Chandler, complicates Kamara's future in New Orleans. He also pointed out that Kamara's contract has undergone numerous amendments, making it challenging to determine the financial implications of a trade.

While it may be difficult for Kamara to attract significant trade offers at this stage of his career, Graziano believes that a fresh start in a suitable offensive scheme, such as those in Cincinnati or Green Bay, could revitalize his performance. The Bengals, in particular, have an urgent need for a reliable second running back to complement Chase Brown, making Kamara an appealing target for both franchises.

Despite the trade speculation, the Saints may ultimately choose to retain Kamara, creating a strong one-two punch alongside Etienne. However, the possibility remains that he could find a new home with the Packers or Bengals as the offseason unfolds.
