Santiago Luna Exudes Confidence Ahead of Bryce Mitchell Showdown
LAS VEGAS – Santiago Luna is unfazed by the challenge of facing Bryce Mitchell, a fighter with an impressive background. With a record of 8-0 in MMA and 2-0 in the UFC, Luna is preparing for his third UFC bout against Mitchell (18-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 278 on Saturday at the Meta APEX.
Despite being viewed as a slight underdog in the betting odds, Luna believes he has what it takes to control the fight, provided he adheres to his strategy. His confidence is bolstered by training alongside notable fighters like Arman Tsarukyan and Marlon Vera. Luna accepted the fight on short notice after Mitchell's original opponent, Victor Henry, withdrew.
"I'm a fighter that's always ready year-round," Luna shared with MMA Junkie and other media during Wednesday's media day. "Even when I finish fights, I go back at it maybe a week after the fight." He emphasized that his training habits, similar to those of Vera, keep him in fighting shape throughout the year.
Luna's preparation has focused on countering Mitchell's wrestling prowess. Following a loss to Jean Silva at UFC 314, Mitchell transitioned from featherweight to bantamweight, where he quickly secured a victory against Said Nurmagomedov last July. However, Luna is confident in his defensive abilities.
