Seacoast Tuesday Standout: Dover junior right-hander hurls five-inning no-hitter

ROCHESTER - Michael Gorman's first pitch in Tuesday's Division I baseball game hit Merrimack's Danny Lavigne. The Dover High School junior right-hander then issued a two-out walk to clean-up hitter Brogan Matte before getting out out of the first inning unscathed.

From there, it was all Gorman.

Gorman didn't allow a hit, struck out seven, and issued just that one walk over five innings as Dover beat Merrimack, 11-0 at Spaulding High School.

Dover scored five runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth as the game ended there due to the 10-run rule.

"He pitched lights out, a lot of weak contact," Dover head coach Scott Dubben said. "He just dominated. He was getting ahead of hitters, spotting his fastball, spotting his breaker, and just really locating well."

Dubben said there were no defensive web-gems to keep Gorman's no-hitter, the first of his high school career, alive.

"Everything was routine," Dubben said. "If you get five no-hit innings out of your starting pitcher you have a great shot to win. He's been great this year, and I'm proud of him."

Dubben said Gorman has pitched as "advertised" this season.

"He's having a season where I thought he would have this year," Dubben said. "He's done really well for us."
