Shaquille O’Neal Takes GLP-1 Medication to Address Sleep Apnea
Shaquille O’Neal has become part of a notable trend among past athletes utilizing GLP-1 medications. The NBA legend disclosed that he has begun taking Zepbound to help manage his obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a condition he was diagnosed with in 2011 following his retirement from professional basketball.
Originally developed to treat Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea, these medications have recently gained traction for their effectiveness in weight loss. In an interview with GQ published on Wednesday, O’Neal expressed the importance of addressing OSA, stating, “You know, I chose to share my experience because OSA is a serious but often overlooked condition.”
He went on to reflect on his personal struggles with the disorder, mentioning, “I can remember, especially when I stopped playing, the snoring, the daytime tiredness, a lot of fatigue, and being unable to focus. So this is very personal to me.”
The conversation surrounding the use of GLP-1 drugs continues to grow, as more individuals recognize the potential benefits these treatments can offer.
